[...]We are deeply saddened to announce that our supervisory board chairman and former CEO Dr.-Ing. E.h. Hans G. Huber passed away suddenly and unexpectedly the night before Saturday, 15th March 2014, at the age of 71. Dr.-Ing. E.h. Hans G. Huber took over the family business from his father in 1967 and has built up the HUBER Group as we know it today. Consistently and with determination he has pushed the company's development into a worldwide leading group on the environmental engineering sector and a supplier of solutions for water and wastewater treatment. After his studies of process engineering at the Technical University of Munich from 1961 to 1967, he took over, together with his brother Karl-Josef, the management of the company Hans Huber GmbH, family-owned for more than 130 years and known as Hans Huber AG from 2003 to 2009 and as HUBER SE since 2009. Owing to the impulses he has constantly given we can be proud on the machines and plants for water treatment we develop, manufacture and sell today. Thanks to his great commitment the HUBER Group has positioned itself as a solution supplier in the field of water treatment, wastewater treatment and sludge treatment. Due to his efforts the company has further developed into a globally active corporation in the course of the past decades. Beside his entrepreneurial activity Dr.-Ing. E.h. Hans G. Huber has held numerous honorary posts and has been an active member of a number of national and international organisations. He has received a number of awards which he has always understood also as acknowledgement for the whole company and every single employee. Among the awards he received are the German Environmental Award, the Environmental Medal of the State of Bavaria, the Federal Cross of Merit with Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany, and the Bavarian Order of Merit. Furthermore, he has been the spokesman of the Bavarian Environmental Technology Cluster right from the beginning in 2006 when the cluster organisation was founded and recently appointed honorary spokesman. In October 2007, Dr. Huber was awarded the honorary doctorate by the Technical University of Munich due to his outstanding achievements in the field of technical environmental protection. In 2006, he further initiated the foundation of the Huber-Technology-Foundation with the goal to increase the public awareness for the element water and symbolise the idea of sustainability. With great sadness we mourn his passing. His personality and lifetime achievements will always have a place of honour in our company and its history and build the basis for all our future work. [...]Ecological awareness is an inherent part of our corporate philosophy. Responsibility for the environment and society: Our products and services contribute to protecting the environment and we are committed to ensuring that our products and services act in accordance with the principles of sustainability. It is our aim to meet the social responsibility our company has. As a manufacturing company we need a variety of machine tools to manufacture our products. In our production halls we use several turning lathes, trimming presses, laser cutting machines, etc. All these machines need electric power so that the annual current consumption of HUBER SE amounts to about 3,400,000 kWh. This is an enormous amount, approximately equivalent to the average annual consumption of 1,000 private households. Depending on how the electricity is produced, more or less CO2 is generated or even no CO 2 at all. In Europe, on average approximately 430 g CO2 per 1 kWh current are emitted (mixed European electricity). If we calculate our annual current demand on the basis of this average CO 2 reference, the result is approximately 1500 t annual CO 2 production. It would take more than 100,000 trees to compensate this emission. We have therefore decided to use 100% green electricity from January 2014 on. This will help us to take a big step forward in our efforts for more environmental and climate protection. We will purchase our green electricity from the Austrian supplier "Vorarlberger Kraftwerke AG". They produce the green electricity exclusively in small and big water power plants in Austria. This has been certified by the Technical Inspection Authority (TÜV). The use of electricity from water power helps us save 1500 t of CO 2 per year. This is an active contribution to reducing the emission of climate-damaging gases. We will nevertheless continue to do everything to use electric power as efficiently as possible. The use of green electricity will be no excuse for us to stop our efforts to save energy.[...]

[...]On May 22, the news station n-tv for the fourth time awarded its „Hidden Champion“ for outstanding middle-sized companies. HUBER SE convinced the jury in the category "sustainability". HUBER could win this category as its company management vision places particular focus on sustainability. The company's strategic approaches are not focused on short-term profit maximisation but on healthy growth and job security. CEO Georg Huber travelled to Frankfurt where he was presented with the award within the Global Business Week event. "Sustainable development does not only refer to economy but also to ecology and social aspects. It is always these three factors we must have in mind". Georg Huber manages the company in the sixth generation already and continues to pursue the sustainability idea as the generations before him had done. It is finally one of the most important resources that plays the main role in the company's business: our water. The technologies HUBER offers provide modern, economical and efficient solutions for wastewater and sludge treatment. The goal is to save energy and resources and ideally recover them. Environmentally sound acting plays a major role already in the production process. For Georg Huber these goals are just natural and a matter of course. He is therefore all the more happy to receive such honours. The prize is regularly awarded to owner-operated companies exclusively that are based in Germany. "It is no secret that middle-sized companies are the backbone of the Germany economy. Much less known are the enterprisers and their employees who contribute every day with their work. [...]The German Family Business Association has announced the winners of the "Bavarian family business of the year" award. In the category of sustainability, the award has been won by the HUBER SE Company. For the association jury, HUBER SE is a flagship for the Bavarian economy. With more than 35,000 water treatment systems installed worldwide, the Berching based business is one of the most important international companies in this sector. "In times of scarce resources and ecological disasters, the economical use of water and the proper treatment of industrial wastewater is becoming increasingly important," commented jury spokesman Dr Walter Schmidt. This is where Huber is conducting pioneering work. The jury was particularly impressed by the work of the Huber Technology Foundation, which promotes awareness of water as a resource amongst young international engineers. "Companies like HUBER SE are excellent examples of how family companies fully assume their social responsibility," commented Dr Schmidt, on behalf of the jury. "Sustainability is not an empty promise, but plays a central role in operational practice." The prize of a Nymphenburg porcelain statue was accepted by Georg Huber, Chairman of HUBER SE. Commenting at the Bavarian Family Business Congress in Nuremberg he said that, "the award is a great honour for me and my staff. We accept the prize as an incentive to further pursue our path with determination".[...]

[...]HUBER Technology Service has won the Open National Championship for sewage treatment professionals organised by the German Water, Wastewater and Waste Association (DWA). The competition took place during IFAT 2014 on the trade fair grounds in Munich. HUBER Technology Service competed as an industrial enterprise against the professionals from seven European sewage treatment works. The participants in the competition had to master demanding challenges in the field of measuring & control technology as well as complete sewage treatment works control with process technology. Moreover, they had to complete the tasks within a strict time limit. Our Service team showed high competence, worked systematically and with concentration, going for the win right from the beginning: Congratulation to Markus Schober, Martin Wild und Sebastian Jürgens, who have impressively proven and demonstrated to the public the superior competence of HUBER Service in direct competition with professionals from very renowned and large national and international sewage treatment plants! This is what we need to permanently further develop our service performance on an international scale. From their new headquarters Huber will coordinate their total global business, including marketing activities, research and development as well as centralized commercial administration. It was our conscious decision to centralize our production and complete administration in Berching/Erasbach to coordinate and control our global activities from here, but this does not mean that we will cut back our export activities. We need growth in export countries as well to be able to provide the local service required there. Growth here in Germany will only be possible if there is growth abroad, as our export rate lies meanwhile at around 60%. We will continue to present ourselves as a leading and globally active company - a goal for which the new office building is the necessary basis for a successful future. This future-oriented concept was underlined already with the ground-breaking ceremony one year ago on 6th September 2002, the day of Hans G. Huber's 60th birthday. On the occasion of this event, the motto of which was "Active on a global scale - At home in Bavaria", the Managing Director Hans G. Huber underlined the significance of the new building for the company: "We see the new building as a symbol for our future, our international orientation and our roots".
