Mechanical treatmen t is indispensable as the first process step of preliminary treatment of wastewater, both for STP inlets and other fields of application, such as process water treatment. Coarse material has to be removed in order to protect the subsequent treatment steps against damage/pollution. It is the goal to completely separate floating, settling and suspended material, depending on the bar spacing, and remove the material prior to discharging it. The requirement for safe operation and low maintenance is becoming increasingly important. For municipal STPs additional screenings washing is utilised to enhance downstream biological treatment. FAQ Frequently Asked Questions What influences the separation efficiency of screens? The size of the opening width on the one hand and the shape of the screening element on the other. With one-dimensional screening elements such as bars, the separation efficiency is generally lower than with two-dimensional elements such as perforated plates, mesh, etc. This is mainly due to the fact that it is very difficult for long-fibre material such as hair to pass through a perforated plate. Which screen type can be used as both a coarse screen and a fine screen? This requirement can only be met by a screen that covers the full range of screen opening widths from fine to coarse screens. In addition, the screen bars must be designed with the respective geometry to meet the corresponding requirement. A typical screen that fulfills all these requirements is our HUBER Multi-Rake Bar Screen RakeMax® Which screens are particularly suitable for deep channels? Machines with a steep installation angle are best suited for such applications. This screen installation option allows the installation space to be very compact, especially in the direction of flow. Typical examples are our HUBER Multi-Rake Bar Screens RakeMax® and RakeMax® CF as well as the HUBER Belt Screen EscaMax® , HUBER Coarse Screen TrashMax® and HUBER Grab Screen TrashLift .[...]

[...]Combined Sewerage and Stormwater Treatment Protection of water bodies from polluted rainwater The advanced treatment of combined and stormwater in wastewater transportation systems is a main issue with regard to sustainable environmental and water protection. The building of new wastewater treatment plants and the upgrading or refurbishing continuous wastewater discharges has significantly increased the quality of many watercourses. Nevertheless, despite all efforts, ecological deficits still exist. Some of the problems are caused in the discharges of combined and separated sewers during storm events when floating and coarse material from the sewers passes into the water bodies. Screens for pumping stations : Trouble-free operation of pumping stations in the sewerage system can be achieved if pumping stations are equipped with appropriate screening systems to ensure that coarse material is safely removed. Combined wastewater screening : Before stormwater and combined sewage are discharged into a watercourse, screening plants are used to separate larger solids from the wastewater. Road run-off treatment : Special plants for the treatment of precipitation water that is to be drained and treated from roads and other traffic-related surfaces. Protection against flooding and backwater : Heavy rainfall events are increasingly causing flooding. Structures should therefore be equipped with suitable products that provide protection against flooding and backwater. Equipment for manholes : Stainless steel components such as manhole covers, ladders, step irons, railings, access aids and prefabricated manholes. FAQs Frequently Asked Questions What is DWA-A 102? The DWA-A 102-1/BWK-A 3-1 Standard is entitled "Principles for the management and treatment of stormwater runoff for discharge into surface waters" and was published in December 2020 by the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA). DWA-A 102 replaces A 128. The content of A 102 is water protection with regard to precipitation-related urban runoff. Planning principles and recommendations for action are given for both separate sewer systems and combined systems with the aim of minimising undesirable substance input into water bodies and the soil. What is a separate sewer system? In a separate sewerage system, stormwater is collected separately from domestic and/or industrial wastewater and discharged into a nearby receiving water body or infiltrated. Whereas in the combined sewer system the stormwater is routed to the sewage treatment plant together with the wastewater, the separate sewer system has the advantage that the sewage treatment plant does not have to deal with the hydraulic load of the stormwater and the wastewater sewer can be dimensioned smaller. However, with a separate system, all pipes are needed in duplicate. Yet, rainwater can also be heavily polluted in some cases. Depending on the degree of pollution, this may also lead to pollution of water bodies, so that so that the rainwater should also be treated appropriately. In Germany, the trend is increasingly towards separate systems.[...]

Drinking water is fresh water that is suitable for human consumption if defined requirements are met. The quality requirements for drinking water differ from country to country, and local ordinances and other regulations apply here, among other regulations. Potable Water Supply Durable stainless steel components are recommended for drinking water supply. This is a point to secure the quality of our drinking water. Drinking Water Treatment Process engineering solutions for the treatment of drinking water in order to meet the quality requirements Drinking water abstraction, treatment and distribution Extraction from wells: Wells can be several hundred metres deep and are used to extract groundwater. Depending on the depth of the well and local conditions, water quality varies and the water may need to be treated further. Extraction from springs: Spring water is groundwater that comes to light. The water quality depends, among other things, on whether the spring is fed by deep groundwater or by less deep surface water. The risk of possible adverse health effects is greater in the case of near-surface water. Extraction from surface water: Drinking water can be obtained from rivers and lakes. Because of the substances that are often present, it is usually necessary to treat the water before it can be used. Seawater is also a common source of drinking water in many countries, with technically complex and energy-intensive seawater desalination plants being used. Storage and distribution: The drinking water is made available to the consumers in the required quantity and pressure as well as the necessary quality via a water distribution system consisting of storage tanks, pressure boosters and pipelines, among other components. [...]Drinking Water Treatment Process engineering solutions for the treatment of drinking water In order to meet the quality requirements for drinking water, more or fewer stages of physical and/or chemical treatment are required, depending on the nature of the raw water. Typical possible treatment steps in drinking water treatment are the removal of iron, manganese as well as deacidification and decarbonisation. Precipitation, flocculation and filtration remove solids and suspended matter. Adsorption processes using activated carbon remove dissolved organic compounds. Germs, bacteria and viruses are eliminated by disinfection processes (e.g. chlorine, ozone). For very salty raw water, reverse osmosis systems or ion exchangers can be used. Solids Separation in Drinking Water Treatment For the production of drinking water (especially when surface water is used), physical process steps are often necessary to remove solids of different types and sizes. Compact Solutions for Drinking Water Treatment The treatment of surface water to drinking water can be done with different physical, mechanical and chemical process steps in package plants. HUBER solutions for the treatment of drinking water Mechanical-physical processes : HUBER offers comprehensive solutions for the separation of all kinds of solids. Coarse material as well as small solids and suspended particles can be removed efficiently and reliably. Package plant for drinking water : The SafeDrink package plant from Mena-Water is a containerised system that integrates all the necessary components for drinking water treatment in one compact system. Coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration and disinfection are used as process steps.
