Yorkshire Water used two design principals on a recent installation, historically the source of bacteriological contamination of service reservoirs had been ingress through joints. In order to reduce this, the tank was designed as a monolithic box. To enable safe access into the tank for cleaning, without the use of ladders, inward opening HUBER TT7 water & pressure tight submarine doors were incorporated into the outlet valve chamber, leading to an internal precast concrete staircase. The security of the tanks is enhanced further by the elimination of covers on the roof. [...]Timpanogos, USA After the success story of thermal sewage sludge drying in the USA began with the Mooresville, North Carolina project in 2011 with a total investment volume of approx. 3.8 million US dollars, HUBER Technology Inc., the US subsidiary of HUBER, has now successfully won its largest dryer project to date with two HUBER Belt Dryers BT 30 and an investment volume of approx. 16.35 million USD. The delivery of the two ordered HUBER Belt Dryers of the largest size BT 30 is scheduled for June 2024. Commissioning of the dryers is planned for spring 2025 according to the customer. 4,000 cubic metres per hour The wastewater plant in Timpanogos, Utah receives the wastewater of more than 240,000 residents from 70,000 private, commercial and institutional wastewater connections. As part of the project, the plant with a total capacity of approx. 25 MGD (average 4,000 m³/h) will also be converted to anaerobic digestion before the HUBER belt dryers are installed. Work on the project started in June 2022. By this time, HUBER Technology Inc. had tested and analysed the first sludge samples from the existing plant in its own laboratory in consultation with the end customer. The process engineering layout of the thermal dryers is based on the current real sludge parameters of the plant, as the anaerobic digestion system has not yet been built and does not yet exist. In 2022, the HUBER subsidiary was awarded the contract for two further belt dryer projects in addition to the Timpanogos project and was commissioned to supply and implement them. For the HUBER Group, the USA has now become the second largest belt dryer market in the world. It is worth mentioning that one of these orders involves the production of the first belt dryer in the USA, thus fulfilling state and federal funding requirements. Another important step in expanding the market share in the USA. Nine projects with eleven dryer lines There are a total of nine different projects with eleven dryer lines, from the BT 10 to the largest available size, the BT 30. The installations are spread across various states: North Carolina, Wisconsin, Georgia, Arkansas, Utah and Pennsylvania. [...]Huddersfield, UK A Wastewater Case Study Through Yorkshire Water’s new £72 million treatment facility at Knostrop, Leeds, where HUBER Technology UK supplied three HUBER Sludge Acceptance Plants ROTAMAT® Ro3 to screen imported sludge, their new facility at Huddersfield, will convert all its waste into renewable energy through a process known as anaerobic digestion and by 2020, 100% of their sludge will be digested. Project Profile Yorkshire Water will have 14 sludge treatment centres in 2020 and currently treats around 150,000 tonnes of sewage sludge each year. These are sludge treatment plants located across the region treating sludge, converting it into a fertiliser, and creating a biogas that is turned into green electricity. This electricity is used to provide power to operate their sewage treatment works. The renewable energy benefits of sludge treatment are helping them keep costs down for customers. They have continued to invest in anaerobic digestion in a move, which will deliver significantly lower operating costs by 2020. Product Profile The HUBER Sludge Acceptance Plant ROTAMAT® Ro3 is designed and built as a packaged item of plant and like all HUBER products, is manufactured completely from stainless steel. It provides high removal efficiency, low head loss as well as longevity of service. The entire screening process takes place in a closed system avoiding odour annoyance, but the machines can be connected to odour control systems when required. The efficiency and rugged construction is able to cope with throughputs up to 230 m³/h. Compact construction, together with intelligent technology ensure reliable and continuous operation. Since this project HUBER had been regularly engaged to look at improving the effectiveness of the inlet works and screenings handling plant to improve the screenings removal to lessen the impact on the downstream equipment, there were challenges surrounding this due to the location of the existing screens and macerator setup. As part of the AMP6 programme of works it was decided amongst other things that a new inlet works and screenings handling facility would be built to improve the screenings removal on an unused part of the site, the site is located in a narrow valley and space is limited. This lead to several challenges and involved a phased installation. HUBER Technology Supplied: 2 x HUBER Belt Screen EscaMax® 6000x1152/6 60o 6mm perforated plate screens. 2 x HUBER Screenings Wash Press WAP® L 4 screenings handling plant 1 x HUBER Launder Trough 1 x Static Stone Trap Objective The primary objective was to provide new 6mm inlet screening to protect the downstream process from screenings and other debris and also provide screenings handling plant to wash and compact the removed screenings.
