A robust conveying and compacting screw transports the screenings into the wash zone where they are exposed to directed and powerful turbulence created by automatic introduction of wash water (service water). The turbulence achieves perfect separation of organic particles and thus effective screenings washing. The washing intensity and cycles are individually adjustable. The washed screenings are further conveyed in the rising pipe to the press zone where they are pressed and dewatered by the compacting screw to a DR content of 35 - 45 %. The wash water from screenings compaction which is rich in carbon is discharged back into the waste water stream. Automatic cleaning of the wash water collecting tank under the machine is possible. The washed and compacted screenings are finally transported through the conical discharge pipe into a skip. For an optimised maintenance strategy, machine sizes 2-12 are equipped with wear detection of the compacting screw in the press zone. The system automatically detects the ideal time for maintenance of the auger. The HUBER Launder Channel HLC Feed System for Screenings Wash Presses The HUBER Launder Channel operates discontinuously in a batch mode or continuously. The screenings to be treated drop into the launder channel from one or several screens. Wastewater or service water is used to flush the screenings into the wash press. Screenings treatment The HUBER screens Fine Screen ROTAMAT® Ro1, Rotary Drum Fine Screen ROTAMAT® Ro2 and Micro Strainer ROTAMAT® Ro9 include an integrated screenings press for dewatering and compaction and therefore do not require an additional wash press. Screenings washing with an optional IRGA unit is possible. Solids concentration of screenings: up to 45% DS. For HUBER Fine Screen STEP SCREEN® SSF, HUBER Belt Screen EscaMax® a separate HUBER Wash Press WAP® is usually installed behind these HUBER screens. Solids concentration of screenings, depending on the WAP® type used: up to 50% DS. Grit separation The grit channels of the HUBER Complete Plant ROTAMAT® Ro5 units are designed in accordance with international standards or the customer’s specific requirements. The grit channels are availabe as aerated or optionally unaerated units. The selection of the grit channel type (aerated or unaerated) depends on various criteria, such as the storm/dry weather flow ratio or whether further grit treatment systems are planned. Grit removal and discharge The settled grit is collected from the bottom of the grit channel with a horizontal grit screw. An inclined grit screw conveys, agitates and dewaters the collected grit. The classified grit slides from the upper end of the inclined screw into a HUBER Coanda Grit Washer RoSF4 T. Optionally, the material can be pumped to the grit washer . Grease separation and removal (optional) Separation of fats and grease is only available when used with aerated grit channels. The grease is collected in a separate chamber with the partition between the grit trap chamber and grease chamber consisting of a slotted scum board. The flow generated within the grit trap chamber by the aeration system transports the grease through the slotted scum board into the grease chamber. In contrast to many competitors, the floating fats and oils are skimmed off the water surface with a paddle scraper that is slowly pulled with a stainless steel rope. The paddle is shaped so that it removes virtually all floating matter from the grease trap. Anaerobic degradation of fat and grease, and there-with odor nuisance, is thus prevented. Optional integrated grit washing In this case the horizontal grit conveyor transports the separated grit fractions directly into a grit washer which is integrated at the Complete Plant outlet. Due to a defined introduction of upwardly directed service water the grit situated within the lower part of the grit washer is fluidised within the flow enabling the lighter organic particles to be separated from the dense grit particles. The separation of the lighter organic particles from the dense grit particles is supported by a rabble rake. After removal of the organic material the clean grit is automatically removed by a classifying screw, statically dewatered and discharged into a container. The rotating screen drum lifts the screenings and drops them into the centrally arranged trough. Screenings removal from the drum is supported by a scraper brush and a spray nozzle bar. A screw conveyor in the trough rotates with the drum and transports the screenings through a closed and inclined pipe. The conveying screw transports, dewaters and compacts the screenings, without any odour nuisance, and discharges them into the customer‘s container or a subsequent conveying unit. Additional Model Variants and Options HUBER Rotary Drum Fine Screen ROTAMAT® PRO The special design of the HUBER Rotary Drum Fine Screen ROTAMAT® PRO series isolates the water level in the trough from the water levels upstream and downstream of the screen. This is achieved with a closed system below the perforated plate of the trough. The liquid phase is removed from the closed system by a suction pump which pumps the flow back to upstream of the machine. The solids are washed, compacted and discharged by a conveying screw. This operation method permits continuous screen operation with a constant water level upstream of the machine. Continuous system operation significantly increases throughput capacity. The PRO system can even be reliably applied with high downstream water levels and is especially suitable for pump applications. As backup of water into the trough is impossible, screenings discharge via the removal screw can reliably be ensured. It is easy to retrofit into any type of HUBER Rotary Drum Fine Screen ROTAMAT®. HUBER Perforated Plate Screen ROTAMAT® STAR The HUBER Perforated Plate Screen ROTAMAT® STAR is especially designed for fine apertures and for large wastewater volumes in a gravity line with low headloss. Its design is based on the well-proven ROTAMAT® principle: screenings separation, washing, transport, and compaction in one unit. To improve screen throughput capacity, the RPPS Star screen has a star-shaped screen basket with a zigzag folded surface. The star-shaped folded plate of the HUBER Perforated Plate Screen ROTAMAT® STAR provides an increased free screen surface and an approximately 30 % increase in throughput capacity with the same nominal diameter. The STAR design combines the benefits of maximum free screen surface and very high separation efficiency. This efficiency-improving innovative development permits for optimal and economical system dimensioning, it is space-saving and reduces civil costs. Installation is suitable into existing channels or for tank installation. HUBER Perforated Plate Screen ROTAMAT® STAR units are preferably used with perforations of 1 / 1.5 / 2 mm for installation on municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants. The screens are also applied to protect downstream membrane systems by removal of hair and fibres. They can be installed in the mechanical treatment stage or downstream of grit traps. Special PRO design screens are available for applications where an additional increase in throughput capacity is required. Integrated Screenings Washing System IRGA To optimise the treatment process an integrated screenings washing system IRGA can be provided and also easy retrofitted. It improves the carbon/nitrogen ratio of the pretreated wastewater. In addition, the IRGA reduces the costs of screenings disposal to an optimal cost/performance ratio. The HUBER ROTAMAT® principle allows for integration of the screenings washing system directly in the trough and/or the lower end of the rising pipe. As the soluble matter is separated from the inert material, faeces are virtually completely washed out which leads to a significant weight reduction by approx. 50 % and improved operating and hygienic conditions. The dewatering performance of up to 40 % DS can be increased to more than 45 % DS by adding a high pressure unit (HP) to the integrated screenings washing system IRGA. This combination guarantees the maximum dewatering performance and reduces disposal and operating costs. Benefits of the HUBER Rotary Drum Fine Screen ROTAMAT® Ro2 / RPPS / STAR Low headloss – High separation efficiency: Due to the drum‘s shape and 35° installation the screen area is much larger than that of a vertical or steeply inclined screen, which results in a low headloss, high separation efficiency and maximum throughput. Design and Function HUBER Fine Screen ROTAMAT® Ro1 units are either installed directly into the channels, or are supplied as tank-mounted units, with an inclination of 35°. The wastewater flows into the open end of the inclined screen basket and passes through the screen, where floating and suspended materials are retained by the screen bars of the screen basket. Blinding of the screen surface generates an additional filtering effect so that solids can be retained that are smaller than the bar spacing. At a certain difference of the water levels up- and downstream of the screen, which is caused by screen surface blinding, the rake arm situated on the axle centre starts to rotate. Its tines, extending completely through the screen bars, clean the basket, remove all the screenings, and lift them to a 12 o‘clock position. The screenings drop into the centrally positioned trough with integrated screw conveyor. The rake is then returned back through its 12 o‘clock position. During this return movement a hinged comb pushes the screenings off the rake so that the tines are additionally cleaned. With the rotational movement of the conveying screw the screenings are transported out of the trough and conveyed through the rising pipe. As the screenings are conveyed and compressed within the inclined pipe, they are dewatered and compacted without any odour annoyance prior to being discharged into the customer‘s container or a subsequent conveying unit. This screen has a flat and therefore hydraulically advantageous bottom section that transitions into a steep conveying section. This combines the benefits of the well proven RakeMax®, reliable solids separation and high screenings discharge capacity, with a low headloss due to a big effective screen rake surface. Design and Function The HUBER RakeMax® HF Multi-Rake Bar Screen is the ‘high flow’ version and further development of the successful HUBER RakeMax® Multi-Rake Bar Screen that is well-proven in thousands of installations. The RakeMax® HF screen consists of two different sections: The flat bottom section provides a large screening surface and favourable hydraulic conditions, the steep conveying section ensures screening on a small footprint. Material removal starts virtually right at the bar rack mounted flat to the channel bottom so that any accumulation of disturbing material is eliminated. The optimal approaching flow conditions and large effective bar rack surface ensure a high hydraulic throughput capacity. The cleaning elements, attached to the chain system, can easily be adjusted to different requirements so that a highly variable screenings discharge capacity is achieved. This is especially favourable for high solids loads. Depending on the size of bar spacing, the bar rack design is either a flow-optimising bar or non-blocking wedge wire profile. Both ends of the cleaning elements are connected to drive chains. Each chain is driven by a sprocket on a common shaft and a flange mounted gear motor. At the end of the bar rack cleaning cycle the cleaning elements are cleaned by a pivoted comb that reliably discharges the removed screenings into a downstream transport, washing or disposal unit. The easy to access and maintain drive unit is installed above the channel. Due to the screen’s compact design its height above floor is very low. Due to its different design options the RakeMax® CF covers a very wide range of applications, allowing us to respond to the individual needs of our customers and to specific constructional and hydraulic site conditions. Design and Function The HUBER RakeMax® CF consists of a U-shaped stationary bar rack installed between the two screen frames, parallel to the flow direction of the wastewater. Whilst the wastewater flows into the open front side of the screen and out through both the left and right bar rack, solids are retained on the inner surface of the U- shaped bar rack. The solids retained on the bar rack lead to gradual blinding of the bar rack surface which has an impact on the level difference in the channel. Cleaning of the screen bars starts at a defined water level in the channel upstream of the screen. The RakeMax® CF achieves this with its cleaning elements attached to the chain system. The discharge capacity can be adjusted to individual requirements as the number of screening elements attached to the chain system is variable. Due to the specific design of the RakeMax® CF screen its height above floor is very low and, even in case of deep channels, only dependent on the installation height of the downstream screenings transport or washing system. If the screen operation is blocked, an electric control reliably protects the screen against damage caused by overload. At the end of the bar rack cleaning cycle the rake is positively cleaned by a pivoted comb which reliably discharges the removed screenings into a downstream transport or disposal unit. However, the solids contained within the wastewater frequently lead to pump failure. Design and Function The HUBER Pumping Stations Screen ROTAMAT® RoK4 is the ideal solution for this task, whether for new structures or refurbishment. Contrary to conventional screening systems which require manual cleaning, the screen surface of the HUBER Pumping Stations Screen ROTAMAT® RoK4 is cleaned automatically. The screen Vertically lifts the screenings, and dewaters and compacts them at the same time. The compacted screenings are discharged into a container or endless bagger for further disposal thus eliminating odour nuisance and pump failure due to clogging. The screen consists of a vertical perforated screen basket and a shafted auger in a vertical tube. The wastewater flows through an inflow connection and a chamber into the screen basket. Within the screen basket the flights of the screw are equipped with wear-resistant brushes for effective cleaning of the screen. As the screenings are gradually elevated by the auger, they are dewatered. The compacted screenings are discharged into a container or endless bagger thus eliminating odour nuisance. [...]Prevention of blocking Easy retrofit Sturdy design, reliable operation As stones and large objects present in sewers can damage pumps and the inlet equipment of wastewater treatment plants, such objects have to be removed to ensure reliable operation. Design and Function The HUBER Basket Screen CageLift prevents such blockage, the entanglement of debris and damage of equipment as it removes the material. The screen can be installed in a manhole prior to pumps, the size depending on the inflow rate and depth. The sturdy, stable basket screen with bar spacing from 20mm to 80mm retains the floating debris at the sewer outlet. The screen bottom plate is perforated to allow static dewatering of the retained material. When a certain amount of material has accumulated, the screen basket is lifted upwards by an electric chain hoist. The vertical basket movement is supported by a stable carrier and guide rails. These rails are curved in the upper section to ensure a partly automatic discharge into a suitable container. While the screenings are transported upwards in the basket, material which could impair the function of downstream pumps is removed by a fall screen supported on guide rollers. The decisive factor here is to optimise the flow behaviour of the water in the sewer as far as possible. As a rule, coarse screens are installed upstream of the fine screening machines, tasked with filtering particularly coarse impurities. The correct choice of the mechanical screens determines the stability of subsequent process steps and thus the economic efficiency and safety of the entire plant. In view of the increased demands of operators for high throughput rates using the smallest construction volume and low operating and maintenance costs, HUBER has developed the compact Band Screen DualMax®. Design and function of the HUBER Band Screen DualMax® The HUBER Band Screen DualMax® is a screen with stainless steel screen elements and a flow from the outside to the inside of the channel. Depending on the requirement profile, the screening elements can be supplied in mesh or perforated plate design with different separation sizes. The screening elements are connected to a chain and powered by a drive motor. The chain is guided by a guide track in the lower area and a chain wheel in the upper area of the machine. During operation, dirt particles settle on the screening element. They are conveyed upwards by the movement of the screening elements and removed from them by a spray nozzle system arranged upstream of the screening elements and discharged into an externally arranged launder channel. Coarser dirt particles that do not adhere to the screening element are also conveyed upwards by additional carrier bars installed on the screening element. For environmental reasons, the machine can be equipped with fish buckets as an option to protect aquatic creatures. Thanks to the way in which the contaminated water flows into the machine from both sides through the filter elements and flows out of the DualMax® at the output, turbulent flows downstream of the fine screening machine are reduced. This permits a reduced distance to the pump and thus also a shorter channel on site. The selected frame design of the DualMax® minimises Safe and economical water withdrawal with the HUBER Band Screen DualMax® installation times and required construction work, as the machine can be installed as an entire fine screen or in assemblies in the channel. The DualMax® can be manufactured in stainless steel, duplex or super duplex depending on the project-specific requirements. A combination of stainless steel and cathodic corrosion protection is also available to enable safe machine operation in corrosive media for many years.
