IFAT 2026 prize claimed: a visit to long-standing partners in Ampfing
Great news for the municipality of Ampfing: They won first prize in the HUBER competition at IFAT 2026. The prize was recently claimed during a visit to the Ampfing wastewater treatment plant. Christian Thede (Digital Service & Product Management) and Mathias Zimmermann (Service & Sales Engineer) from HUBER Global Service spent an engaging morning with the operations team, which included a tour of the facility and a shared snack break.
The Ampfing wastewater treatment plant is designed for a capacity of 25,000 population equivalents and treats wastewater from the municipality as well as the districts of Salmanskirchen and Stefanskirchen. The infrastructure is complemented by a total of 44 pumping stations across the municipal area.
Almost 30 years of successful partnership
The visit also provided an opportunity to look back on the long-standing collaboration between the municipality of Ampfing and HUBER. A HUBER Complete Plant ROTAMAT® Ro5 was installed there back in 1996, alongside a HUBER Rotary Drum Fine Screen ROTAMAT® Ro2 and a HUBER Grit Washer RoSF4 T. This combination of screening and grit washing has been in operation since 1996 and remains the heart of the mechanical treatment stage to this day.
Modernization of sludge treatment
Continuous investment helps maintain the wastewater treatment plant’s long-term operational performance. In 2024, the sludge treatment system was modernized by installing a HUBER Screw Press Q-PRESS® 620.2, downstream HUBER Screw Conveyor Ro8 T, and an automatic container filling system. This upgrade modernized the sludge dewatering process and optimized operational workflows at the facility.
Modernization of the screening and grit washing system
In 2025, the long-serving HUBER Rotary Drum Fine Screen ROTAMAT® Ro2 and HUBER Grit Washer RoSF4 T were replaced. Thanks to the long-term compatibility of HUBER technology, the new machines of the same type could be integrated into the existing Complete Plant Ro5 without requiring structural modifications.
Digital support for daily operations
In addition to ongoing investments in plant technology, the wastewater treatment plant is also leveraging digital solutions for maintenance and spare parts management. Robert Strohmeier, the wastewater plant supervisor in Ampfing, is already actively using the digital spare parts shop on the HUBER Digital Platform. Particularly with a fleet of machinery spanning nearly three decades, the machine-specific spare parts lists offer a practical advantage: suitable spare and wear parts can be quickly identified and ordered directly. For supervisor Robert Strohmeier, the platform’s added value is obvious:
‘I handled the registration myself. Within a short time, my machines were listed in the member area. Using the spare parts lists, I was able to quickly identify and order the parts I needed.’
An exchange in personal atmosphere
Following a tour of the treatment plant, the visit concluded with a shared meal in a relaxed, sociable atmosphere. What began as a prize from a competition turned into much more than just lunch together; it fostered a productive exchange between long-standing partners.
